Our Story

The story of St. Moses Coptic Orthodox Church of Ashburn, VA

From the beginning to where we are now, St. Moses Coptic Orthodox Church has remained true to God’s calling for us. We have always believed that in order to accomplish our mission, we must be willing to step out in visionary faith and take risks for God, and God has blessed us for that. The Bible says, in Acts 2:47: “Praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.”

Studying where we have been, we clearly see God at work. This gives us hope for the future and inspires us to continue serving those who are thirst for Jesus Christ.

Our Story began on Saturday, October 20th, 2007, when His Holiness Pope Shenouda III authorized Rev. Hegumen Fr. Shenouda El Baramosy, who is now H.G. Bishop Michael, to officiate the first Divine Liturgy for our new church at Ashburn Community Center, Ashburn, VA.

For three months following the first Divine Liturgy, we had celebrated the Divine Liturgy every third Saturday of the month at the same location.

In 2008, the Greek Orthodox Church of Sterling, VA, permitted us to use their church and to celebrate the Divine Liturgy every Saturday.

In 2009, we rented a space for the new church, which was next to the Greek Orthodox Church of Sterling, VA, where we celebrated the Divine Liturgy four times a week.

In 2010, we needed a larger space for the church with a large parking space to accommodate for the growing numbers of the believers. This time we bought our own space in Ashburn, VA, located at 44710 Cape Ct. Unite # 130. Ashburn, VA 20147. Since we moved to the church’s new location, the church has celebrated the Divine Liturgy every day and two times every Sunday.

Currently, God willing, because the church has increased rabidly in numbers, we look forward to buying a land to expand the Sanctuary and the service facilities. This expansion is necessary for our immediate needs and for the new generation’s needs.

As you learn about the history of St. Moses Coptic Orthodox Church, our prayer is that you would be encouraged by God’s faithfulness through the years and challenged to continue to trust Him for great things.

We pray that the word of the Lord shall grow, multiply, be mighty, and be confirmed, in the Holy Church of God. Amen.
